This series was shown at BXXBS, a charity gallery event for breast cancer awareness at Blank Canvas Gallery in Toronto, Canada.
In this series, childhood objects are stripped of their nostalgia and thrust into a narrative where the antagonist is breast cancer. I draw on memories of naivety among my childhood peers on the subject of breasts. We would use objects to joke about breasts and gasp with innocence, ignorant and blind to a disease that could be present in our futures. These images depict moments within a life impacted by breast cancer. Moments of fear and uncertainty are intertwined with strength and resilience. Despite this, these ordinary objects that once existed in nostalgic memories become bittersweet reminders of an unrelenting disease.
